Melbourne instruments Delia
The Delia is a motorized polyphonic morphing synthesizer from Melbourne Instruments.
DELIA is a bi-timbral polyphonic synthesizer inspired by the motorized control panel and vocal architecture of Melbourne Instruments' original Nina.
Delia features a 49-note keyboard with velocity and aftertouch sensitivity, new multi-mode analog filters, high-pass and low-pass resonance control, 3-stage overdrive, and even more modulation possibilities. Combined with our Rotary Recall° technology, Delia opens the door to the sounds and direction of tomorrow.
Classic Style — Futuristic Control:
DELIA is a bi-timbral polysynth inspired by the motorized control panel and vocal architecture of Melbourne Instruments' original Nina. Delia introduces a 49-note velocity- and aftertouch-sensitive keyboard, new multi-mode analog filters, high- and low-pass resonance control, three-stage overdrive, and even more modulation possibilities. Combined with our Rotary Recall° technology, Delia opens the door to the sounds and directions of tomorrow.
An analog soul with a computerized brain:
Using a combination of authentic analog filters and virtual analog modeling, DELIA retains the essential sound of overheated analog ladder filters, while using a digital interface to drive modeled VCOs, wavetables, high-pass filters, and more. The powerful combination of analog and digital is harnessed by Delia’s unique 12-note mode, utilizing 12 full oscillator banks across all 6 filters, limiting note stealing without compromising the sound, and fully unleashing Delia’s bi-timbral operation.
Discrete Multi-Mode Filters:
Delia’s true analog low-pass filter is the heart and soul of its sound engine—warm, full, and smooth, or fiercely aggressive. It’s complemented by a modeled high-pass ladder filter, which can be linked for bandpass and notch operations. With 12 and 24 dB slopes and separate high-pass/low-pass resonance control, there’s immense scope for sound sculpting, from the most delicate plucked strings and pads to the wildest, most overdriven basses and leads imaginable. Delia is an inspiring creative companion and a reliable instrument for musicians and composers of all skill levels.
Full disclosure. This is not a dream!:
At first glance, Delia has fewer knobs than its predecessor Nina, but that doesn’t limit the control in any way. With our Rotary Recall system, Delia delivers on the demand for “one button per function” without an overwhelming number of buttons and menus, allowing players to effortlessly navigate between four oscillators, three LFOs, multi-mode filters, envelope generators and effects, providing the confidence to push the boundaries of performance and sound design.
Evolve every parameter, then tweak it:
Delia’s A/B Morph feature lets you explore and sweep timbres like never before. The A/B Morph sound is an actively calculated change of parameters between presets A and B, including the entire modulation matrix. This allows you to instantly create a new preset based on the Morph position that is neither preset A nor preset B, but a completely new sound. Morph is also a “mod destination,” giving you even more creative control via aftertouch, mod wheel and expression.
Step into an infinite matrix of sounds:
The motorized journey doesn’t stop at Recall and Morph; Delia’s “Mod Mode” automates the setup of the modulation matrix. As you navigate between the 20 modulation sources, each knob changes position to display the amount of modulation. No need to adjust the panel every time you change sources or destinations, no matter how many modulations or slots are active. Delia gives you a truly fluid sound design workflow, combining the flexibility of a software synth with the tactile experience of a classic hardware synth.
Building on Innovation:
Delia inherits many of Nina’s acclaimed features, including 4-quadrant analog VCAs, Morphing, digital effects, and a digital wavetable oscillator. Additions include sequencer phrase looping and overdubbing, as well as the ability to assign your favorite effect parameter to the effects macro control. Under the hood, Delia is a beast! Virtual analog oscillators model Nina’s discrete circuitry but add cross modulation, and Delia’s 20 modulation sources and 40+ modulation destinations with unlimited slots give sound designers a nearly infinite spectrum of sounds. Dual digital effects processors, combined with classic effects presets and the option to run in series or parallel, provide creative freedom. And with the ability to save over 16,000 presets, inspiration and artistry will never be limited by available memory or slots. Delia’s high-definition LCD display also offers helpful wave and envelope visualizers, as well as instant feedback and display for nearly every function when interacting with the control panel.
