Introduced in 1953 and regularly modified in the years that followed, the Gibson Les Paul Custom was significantly improved in 1957 with the introduction of the legendary P.A.F. humbucking pickups designed by Seth Lover.
The following year marked the introduction of the legendary trilogy of original Les Paul Standard “Burst” models from 1958, 1959, and 1960. It was replaced by the SG design in 1961. It wasn’t until 1968 that the Les Paul reappeared in its original body style, notably the Custom.
Inspired by the instruments in the Made To Measure line, the GIBSON Custom Shop Limited Edition LE 1957 Les Paul Custom Reissue Korina (LPB5726LE23258) is a stunning reinterpretation of this iconic solid body electric guitar—a must-have for enthusiasts of authentic vintage tones and feel. It stands out for its Korina body (with an ebony fingerboard), its VOS Antique Natural finish, and its uncovered pickups, which give it a unique look.

Like Brazilian rosewood or Madagascar mahogany, Korina is an extremely popular wood species. Used to craft the 1958 Explorer and Flying V models, it is a prestigious variety of mahogany sourced from African forests. It has a significantly higher density than common mahogany, offering magnificent added clarity.

The construction is precision-engineered, with dimensions laser-scanned from vintage models, and components selected with uncompromising care: a set neck (using a “Long Neck Tenon” joint and “hot hide glue*”) made of solid Korina, a solid ebony fingerboard, hand-wound Custom Buckers Alnico III micros, calibrated to faithfully reproduce the warm, punchy, and nuanced tones of the P.A.F. pickups from that era.

Since 2014, Gibson has been using “Hot Hide Glue.” It has the same characteristics as the adhesives used in the 1950s. Derived from animal proteins, it has the advantage of simplifying maintenance and any necessary repairs.
