The Ashdown Saint Avant’s construction combines a poplar body (40 mm thick), a bolt-on neck made of torrefied maple, and a fingerboard also made of torrefied maple (set with 24 fanned stainless steel frets!). This design produces clear and dynamic acoustic tones that are rich and responsive, with precise, punchy bass, balanced mids, and crystalline highs.
Poplar is considered an alternative to alder. It is widely available and cost-effective, making it the preferred choice for entry-level and mid-range instruments.
In addition to giving the wood an elegant patina, the torrefaction process improves the instrument’s stability, sustain, clarity, and resonance, while protecting it from temperature fluctuations, humidity, and mold.

The set of three J-Bass-style pickups with AlNiCo V magnets delivers a wide range of tones, from warm vintage sounds to the most percussive and glossy tones, with many variations in between.
