Roland JD-08
The JD-08 is a sound module that carries over the features of the legendary JD800.
With its retro controls, evocative sounds and powerful effects, the JD-800 was a favourite of top electronic music producers in the 1990s and 2000s. Combining the waveforms of the original JD-800 with advanced modelling techniques, the JD-08 provides the right feel for manipulating the sound of the original with extensive polyphony, a two-part polyphonic sequencer, and many other improvements.
Inspiring sounds under your fingers.
In the early 1990s, preset-centric digital synths with few physical controllers dominated the market. The JD-800, in 1991, returned the synth world to its roots with a button-filled front panel and an aggressively electronic sound palette. The JD-08 features the 64 presets of the original instrument and perfectly recreates the four-tone, 108-waveform, two-part multi-effect structure that formed the core of the JD-800's complex and evolving sound.
An expanded sound palette for today's music.
While the original design of the JD-800 has been retained for this modern version, a host of new features enhance the user experience. New patches and 256 memory locations take you deep into the heart of the many parameters to create entirely new sounds. And thanks to improved polyphony and two-part multitimbral possibilities, your musical ideas can be developed with ease.
Music that evolves.
Once your patches are set up, switch to the two-part polyphonic sequencer and start programming leads, bass lines, or basic chords that will be synchronized with the other parts of your electronic ensemble. And to produce evolving sounds, use the built-in motion recording and arpeggiator, which will make your melody lines really dance.
MIDI, USB and external clock input.
The JD-08 features a USB-C audio/MIDI interface, which allows you to play, record and sync with any type of computer-based music production software. Standard MIDI input and output allow you to use other MIDI instruments. There's even an external clock input to run the JD-08's sequencer and arpeggiator from vintage analog instruments and modern Eurorack systems.
Grab your module. Go on tour.
Its compact size allows the JD-08 to fit anywhere and be easily controlled by a master keyboard or music software. It can let you play for hours on standard AA batteries, with a built-in speaker to hear your sounds in any situation. Add a DK-01 Boutique Dock to complete your look and have three tilt angles, or a K-25m keyboard for a portable, stand-alone instrument.
