The PRS John Mayer SE Silver Sky Defender is a limited-edition model available in colors inspired by the Defender model from a famous American car brand favored by the musician.
Each version (Petra Copper, Sedona Red, Carpathian Grey, Woolstone Green) features a black pickguard—a first for the Silver Sky—and a commemorative truss rod cover, and comes with a Custom PRS/Land Rover Gig Bag.
The PRS Limited Edition John Mayer SE Silver Sky Defender (Petra Copper) is the result of a close collaboration between the virtuoso bluesman and Paul Reed Smith.
It is a high-quality instrument, heavily inspired by the artist’s personal and favorite vintage guitars. Every detail has been optimized to create the ideal single-coil pickup guitar (at least for John Mayer!).
Virtually every component has been customized for John Mayer, notably the 635JM “S” pickups, which deliver a full, rich, and highly musical tone—especially in the high frequencies.
The body is made of poplar, a wood species considered an alternative to alder.
Widely available and affordable, poplar is therefore often used to craft entry-level and mid-range instruments.
