Sitka Spruce is the common choice for top wood on most acoustic guitars. Offering combination of strength and elasticity which translates into a broad dynamic range, Sitka Spruce has a punchy direct sound, yielding crisp articulation and allowing for versatile playing, from dynamic strumming, flatpicking or fingerpicking.
Close in density and hardness to soft Maple but less dry sounding, Cherry is a fairly reflective tonewood, with a rich midrange and balanced tone, helping to project volume for acoustic guitars. For those reasons it can be compared to a very good Rosewood.
